DIRECTOR

A story brought to life.

I was an actor before I became a director. That experience has shaped the way I work, and the way I listen, ever since.

From the theatre to television drama, I have always believed that the best work begins with a strong story, a shared vision and the right people in the room.

THE ACTOR IN THE DIRECTOR

Understanding what happens on both sides of the camera.

I went to theatre school as a child and went on to study English and Drama at university. Acting was my first career choice, and it gave me a lasting respect for what performers bring to a production.

When I began directing in theatre, and later in television drama, I carried that experience with me. Knowing how actors think, what they need and how to give them the confidence to explore a role remains central to my approach.

MY APPROACH

Story. People. Picture.

01 / THE STORY

Start with what matters

Before anything else, I look for the heart of the story. What are we really saying? What makes the characters act, react and change?

02 / THE PEOPLE

Find the right performers

Casting and rehearsal are creative conversations. I want actors to feel trusted, challenged and supported, so they can make the characters their own.

03 / THE PICTURE

Give it a visual life

Then story and performance become something we can see. Rhythm, movement, framing and collaboration all serve the feeling of the scene.

WORKING TOGETHER

A great performance begins with trust.

I have had the good fortune to work with extraordinary performers, both here and in Los Angeles. Some of those professional relationships have grown into lasting friendships.

The work is at its best when everyone feels part of the same creative process, from performers and writers to producers and the wider crew.

WHAT GUIDES ME

“I start with the story, then find the actors best able to be that story.”

The rest is about bringing those performances together and making them visual, with imagination, collaboration and mutual respect.

LET’S WORK TOGETHER

Shall we bring your story to life?

Whether you have a drama in development, a production preparing to shoot or a project in need of an experienced director, I would be delighted to hear from you.
