TEACHER
Sharing experience. Encouraging talent.
I really enjoy teaching. It is challenging, stimulating and, more than anything, rewarding.
After a working life in acting, writing and directing, sharing that range of experience feels entirely natural. I love helping people discover what they can do, find confidence in their ideas and develop their own creative voice.
WHAT MAKES IT WORTHWHILE
“It’s wonderful to see students achieve.”
I find teaching a great privilege. Seeing someone make a breakthrough, however big or small, is one of the most satisfying parts of the work.
WHY I TEACH
Experience means more when you share it.
Writing, performing and directing all involve different ways of looking at a story. Teaching offers a chance to bring those perspectives together and to show how much they can inform one another.
A script is meant to be performed. A performance changes when it moves from stage to screen. And good directing depends on understanding both the people and the material. I enjoy making those connections practical and accessible.
WHAT I TEACH
From the first idea to the finished performance.
I am equally happy working with the written word, the actor, the camera or the wider creative process.
01 / WRITING
Scriptwriting and storytelling
Exploring ideas, developing characters, shaping dialogue and finding the story that makes a scene compelling.
02 / PERFORMANCE
Acting for the stage
Working with a script, exploring character, listening and responding, and developing the confidence to make a scene come alive.
03 / CAMERA
Acting for screen and camera technique
Understanding the relationship between the actor and the camera, and how performance adapts to the intimacy and demands of the screen.
04 / DIRECTION
Directing and creative collaboration
Looking at the whole scene, working with actors and making considered choices that help bring the story to life.
IN THE ROOM
The work matters. So does enjoying it.
Teaching is a lively exchange of experience and ideas. I want the work to be stimulating, for everyone involved, with space to ask questions, experiment and learn through doing.
I take the creative process seriously, but that does not mean it has to feel solemn. A sense of humour has always been part of my working life.
A LITTLE PERSPECTIVE
Not every skill is my strongest.
I have even been known to hang wallpaper on a flat for a set. I am not sure that is my greatest talent, but I am always happy to roll up my sleeves.
LEARNING THROUGH EXPERIENCE
A practical connection to the creative world.
The most useful lessons are often the ones that connect craft with experience. I want students to understand how ideas develop in the rehearsal room, on the page and in front of the camera, and how those disciplines support one another.
Above all, I enjoy helping students find their own way forward. Seeing them achieve is what makes teaching such a privilege.

LET’S TALK
Planning a class, workshop or course?
I would be delighted to hear about your students or group, and what you would like them to explore. Do get in touch to talk about teaching.
